39. It's called the Cape Winelands for a reason

Friday night, after spending our morning in a slaughterhouse and our afternoon checking out the failed public toilets in a township, Neha and I cooked boboetie (my favorite traditional South African dish). And then, we went to see the Great Gatsby. I have to confess I never read that whole book. I wasn't required to read it in high school, and I started it of my own accord, but books are one thing I'm really not good about finishing what I start. The movie was fine. But it was kind of long, I thought it dragged on a bit, and (shhhhh don't tell on me) I fell asleep during the movie. In the theater. I've never done that before. Probably because I usually have to pay around $10 to see a movie. This was a little less than $5 fortunately. But still, it was fun to see a movie in theaters.

Saturday morning, after another failed post office trip trying to retrieve a care package my mom had sent me and had apparently been delivered to the post office on 10 May, I went back to the Slow Foods Market in Stellenbosch (it's called Slow Foods because it's in opposition to Fast Foods, the food is all market-fresh and cooked right in front of you for the most part...and it's SO good).

Then in the afternoon, I went on a wine tasting tour because, well it's Stellenbosch, South Africa's wine capital. Having been exposed to the farm workers' side of wine farms gave us probably a very different perspective from most wine tourists (also we're all 20 and 21 and aren't exactly wine connoisseurs), but it worked out well because so many of us went that we were the only people in the bus. We visited four different wineries with really long Afrikaans/Dutch names that I could definitely not repeat for you. Especially since I'm a lightweight and was definitely feeling it a little bit by the end despite the fact that it was just a "tasting." Haha! But it was fun. Definitely an experience I'm glad I've had, especially since it was only $20 for the whole thing. The wine farms are beautiful and the drives between them were beautiful and very pleasant. The weather was absolute perfection and the day was gorgeous. And we got to see the sunset over the vineyards with mountains as backdrop. But I'm definitely not a wine person yet...I'm hoping it is an acquired taste. I liked two of the sweet dry white whines, but that probably just reveals how inexperienced my palate is.

Aha! We went to Warwick wine farm...

Wine makes Marie artsy?

Oh that looks pretty!
